Fressnapf breaks one billion turnover mark
For the first time in the history of the company, specialty chain Fressnapf recorded a turnover of over one billion euros in the 2008 financial year, the latest highlight in one of the retail industry’s unparalleled success stories. Fressnapf founder Torsten Toeller opened his first Fressnapf store in Erkelenz in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1990, aged just 24, and almost went bankrupt in the process. 18 years later, he has achieved his first billion-euro turnover. more...

Fressnapf donates Christmas gifts for needy pet owners

Christmas at Fressnapf: Love of animals knows no crisis
In times of a financial crisis and recession fears, pets are the very last thing that German animal lovers save on. XXL goes international
Fressnapf opened an XXL store with a sales area of 1,400 m2 in Rue de Brill, Foetz in Luxembourg on October 23rd. A 300m2 pond department and 400m2 outdoor area will bring the store to a total of 2,000 m2 when they open in spring 2009, making it the largest pet specialty store in Luxembourg by far. more...

German specialist pet retailer Fressnapf is the PET Retailer of the Year. Proprietor and managing partner Torsten Toeller accepted the prize yesterday at the International Pet Conference in Amsterdam. The competition is hosted every two years by trade magazine PET in Europe, published by Dähne Verlag in Ettlingen, Germany, in recognition of the most innovative international specialty store concept. more...

Animal welfare makes its mark: Deutscher Tierschutzbund receives 100,000 euro donation
Deutscher Tierschutzbund president Wolfgang Apel accepted a cheque for 100,000 euros from Fressnapf CEO Torsten Toeller in Krefeld, Germany. Fressnapf, who have been involved in animal welfare for many years now, called for customer donations during World Animal Week 2008. Customers made a personal mark for animal welfare with the campaign "Ich gebe Pfötchen" ("I give paw"). The campaign, in aid of the Deutsche Tierschutzbund, the German animal welfare association, ran from September 28th to October 8th in all of the around 700 Fressnapf stores in Germany. more...

Germany gives paw for animal welfare
Specialty chain Fressnapf is calling for customer donations for animal welfare for World Animal Day on October 4th. Committed Fressnapf customers can make a personal contribution to the protection of animals with the fundraising campaign "Ich gebe Pfötchen" ("I give paw"). forsa study shows that organic is the way to go for Fressnapf
A representative forsa study of 1,000 pet owners commissioned by Fressnapf revealed that organic is the trend for pet food. Almost half (44 percent) of German dog and cat owners believe that buying and feeding their pets organic food essentially worthwhile and important in times of climate change and global warming. More than every tenth sees it as "absolutely worthwhile and extremely important". In addition, 60 percent of German dog and cat owners can imagine buying organic pet food in the near future - if they don’t already. First Tiertafel and Fressnapf goodwill tour
The "Tiertafel-mobile" is travelling across Germany from September 26th to October 4th for German pet food charity Tiertafel Deutschland e.V., supported by Fressnapf. The first ever goodwill tour has all kinds of information and surprises for customers and visitors on board and will stop at six Fressnapf stores across Germany. The tour culminates in the opening of the new Tiertafel distribution centre in Berlin on October 4th, World Animal Day. The new Fressnapf autumn/winter catalogue is here!
Fressnapf is releasing its latest catalogue just in time for autumn and winter. Division manager Marco Werner, product manager Bernd Kenda and in-house graphic designer Stefanie Kley were responsible for the new catalogue, which will be available free in stores from September 22nd and will also be published online. Over 100 pages long, the new catalogue is even more comprehensive than past editions and is almost double the size of the first 54-page edition from October 2007. Germany's dogs and rodents celebrate Oktoberfest with Fressnapf
It's that time of year again! The barrel will be tapped in Germany’s most famous tent to open this year’s Oktoberfest on September 20 - the signal for owners and dogs to chink glasses. Germany’s leading retailer of pet food and accessories, Fressnapf, will once again set party animals’ hearts racing with its Oktoberfest range for dogs and rodents. Fressnapf’s great Oktoberfest treats for dogs have been on sale since September 1. Rodents will also be able to enjoy a different kind of snack between September 29 and October 8. Help for needy pet owners
Fressnapf is donating pet food worth around 40,000 euros to the German pet food charity "Tiertafel Deutschland e.V.". "Unfortunately, there are many needy people in Germany who must think twice about every penny they spend. There are also many among them who really need help in providing for their pets," said Achim Schütz, company spokesman for Fressnapf Tiernahrungs GmbH. "We want to support the work of the pet food charity with a donation," the press spokesman said. Bigger and better: in-house exhibitions are old hat. In the future, Fressnapf will invite all its franchise partners and employees to an annual "showcase" held in warehouses at the company's headquarters in Krefeld, Germany. "In most cases it used to be just the trade fair discounts that attracted our people to Krefeld. This year, we will start to showcase the services our headquarters has to offer in an exciting way. The Fressnapf catalogue is online - now with even more ideas for animal lovers
Internet-friendly pet owners will be able to enjoy an even greater range of products in Fressnapf’s online catalogue from July 9. The extended version will include over 20 pages more than the print edition, containing mostly seasonal articles, such as outdoor backpacks for dogs in summer. Fressnapf welcomes "Canine colleagues"
The Germany-wide "Canine colleagues" ("Kollege Hund") day on June 26, an initiative of the Deutscher Tierschutzbund (German Animal Welfare Association), was just a normal day at the office for pet products supplier Fressnapf - the 300 employees at the company’s headquarters in Krefeld can bring their dog to work every day. Fressnapf acquires majority share in Zoomart
Fressnapf is now the majority shareholder of Belgian pet supply chain Zoomart as of yesterday. With the move, Fressnapf is strengthening its presence in the Belgian market, enabling the company to manage its business more directly and thus effectively. Fressnapf has held a minority stake in Zoomart since 2005. Zoomart is a subsidiary of Dutch Fressnapf partner Jumper, of which Fressnapf has been a holding since 2001. more...

Twofold award winning adverts
For the fifth time in a row, Fressnapf has gained distinction for its printed advertising. The company received the "Schau Schau" 2008 silver award for its advertising campaign "Animal lovers give their best". This year for the first time, Fressnapf's TV advertising has also won a prize. Fressnapf Catalogue - now even bigger
After the first edition in October 2007 the second edition of the Fressnapf catalogue is due for release in mid March. Around one million copies will be circulated in all stores - approximately 50% more than last time. The number of pages has also increased by 30% making the new catalogue a total of 70 pages long. That means 16 extra pages of "More Ideas For Your Pet" - the slogan for the catalogue, which once again invites Fressnapf customers on a journey of discovery into the exciting world of pet food and accessories. more...

Fressnapf achieves record turnover
The Fressnapf Group, Europe's market leader in the pet food and accessories industry, is rapidly expanding. At the end of the 2007 financial year Fressnapf had achieved a turnover of €934.8 million and was closer than ever to the dizzy heights of the €1 billion turnover mark. With 16.8% more turnover from last year this is the largest sales increase for five years. In Germany, Fressnapf's biggest market, the Krefeld franchise company has made large gains with a turnover of €673.8 million and a sales increase of 12.9%.
