Fressnapf wants to set world record in giving paw

Hamburg’s dogs will once again be out and about in the last weekend of May. Fressnapf, Europe’s largest pet specialty chain, is hosting “St. Wauli” in St. Pauli for the fourth time on May 30th. The dog festival for the entire family is set to attract visitors with an extra special event this year: Alongside a colourful entertainment programme, Fressnapf will make a spectacular mark for animal welfare with a world record attempt in giving paw. All canine visitors will be called to simultaneously give paw to their master or mistress on command - a feat that has never been attempted before anywhere in the world.

With the world record attempt, Fressnapf concludes its major fundraising campaign “Give Paw!” in support of the German animal welfare association, which already raised 150,000 euros at the end of last year. Fressnapf will further increase the donation for every four-legged world record participant at St. Wauli. Wolfgang Apel, president of the German animal welfare association, will accept the donation cheque at St. Wauli directly after. So that the synchronous paw giving goes off without a hitch, well-known TV dog psychologist Martin Rütter is hosting a group give paw training session before the main event.

St. Wauli has long become an institution for dog lovers in Hamburg and surrounds. See and be seen, sniff and be sniffed is the name of the game every year when Hamburg’s pawed residents strut their stuff at Heiligengeistfeld. This year, information, performances and entertainment is once again the order of the day at numerous stands from over 60 exhibitors and in the large event areas. Author Manuela Zaitz’s Trick Dog troupe is set to cause a stir with fantastic tricks, customs and rescue dogs show off their sniffing talents and the “Frisbee Fun” team will show the sporty side of our four-legged friends. Information about important topics such as health, diet and animal welfare complete the programme.
