Fressnapf football fever
The countdown to the Wold Cup is running, and Fressnapf, Europe's biggest specialist retail chain for pet food and accessories, is right on the ball. While their masters and mistresses are kitting themselves out in football shirts and German flags, their pets don't want to be caught offside either. They want to be kicking, tackling and dribbling along with the rest. And, of course, they want to be rewarded for their top-class soccer performances – with treats. Right on time for the South African kick-off, Fressnapf has every conceivable variety of wild World Cup products in store for soccer-loving dogs, cats and rodents.
Everything you need for great World Cup Woofball
Dogs are regarded as especially talented ball artists. They are fast, agile and persistent – a footballing blend of Brazilian artistry and German power. With a choice of different soccer products Fressnapf aims to set doggie pulses racing with immediate effect: from nylon and snack balls, sweatbands and collars, to black-red-gold football shirts – offering everything you could wish for. Kitted out like professional strikers, the four-legged players can act out their football fervour and get their muscles going.
Football fan mile for felines and rodents
But even cats, the true dribbling wizards among pets, get their money's worth out of the World Cup. They can perfect their ball skills with the help of World Cup dangling toys, then cosy themselves down on a plush World Cup styled bed. For the ultimate South Africa feeling, scratching trees, reversible blankets and cat toilets in the "zebra" design are also available. Even those who have a rabbit or a guinea pig to call their own can get them to join in the World Cup spirit with mini-football and a completely edible rodent nibble-goalpost. So if the ball just won't go in the net, they can still make a meal of it. And whether it's before, during or after the World Cup – the ceramic "soccer bunny" always makes a desirable nosh bowl.
Wild World Cup fun made simple
"The World Cup toy and fan items for pets are currently the big sellers in our product range", says Achim Schütz, spokesman for the Fressnapf specialist retail chain. The toys will drag pet owners from their sofas and animate them to play with their pets. Or simply let their four-legged friends develop the soccer spirit on their own. When playing with the beloved pets, a bind eye can be turned to the classic ground rules such as "The round thing must go into the square thing" or "A game has to last 90 minutes". The golden rule for animal striker stars: it has to be fun. Play, for animals, is excitement, variety and fun – all in one. Their owners assume the role of the national coach. They show them the rules, motivate team play, and reward good gamesmanship. A hot tip for all dog owners: catch-ball – just like goalie training. Here, the dog learns to kick the ball back when thrown to him. This kind of game can develop quickly to the point where the ball never touches the ground. The ball has to be big enough that the dog can't grasp it with its teeth.
