Pets can dine on ...

The Tiertafel distribution centre in Düsseldorf was threatened with closure - the landlord had served notice to quit the space which the facility had previously been using for food distribution and no new accommodation was in sight. "We absolutely had to do something here", explains Jörg Dräbert, managing director of Fressnapf Heimtierbedarf GmbH who, without further ado, has helped Tiertafel in the search for a new place and also reached for its wallet with financial support. He has handed the new distribution centre in Bilker Allee a donation of 2,000 euros on behalf of Fressnapf. "This donation will help the food distribution to pet owners in Düsseldorf to keep going", says Gerd Weber, the centre's manager. "This lets us pay the rent on the new accommodation for the coming months - without donations like the one from Fressnapf this just would not have been possible."

"There are more and more people having to think twice about every penny they spend. Among them are many pet owners who are having to contend with huge problems providing for their animals because they've no money to feed them", says Jörg Dräbert. These pet owners get help from Tiertafel Deutschland e. V. On top of the 2,000 euros which Dräbert has presented to Gerd Weber, a further donation of 4,000 euros is to be added. "We want to raise this money from the proceeds of this year's "Dog Event Düsseldorf", so we're hoping that as many people as possible will come to this event", explains Dräbert. At the "Dog Event Düsseldorf" which will be happening on the 5th of September this year at Düsseldorf racecourse, visitors will be regaled with a colourful mix of information, discussion and fun on everything to do with dogs. But the focus is also very much on animal welfare. Which is why last year the organiser Jörg Dräbert was able to support the project "Underdog" with revenue from promotions at the event. The "Underdog Bus" is a vet's surgery on wheels that provides free consultations for homeless people's dogs and supports them with accessories such as leads or food.

The helping hand provided by Tiertafel is primarily for pets and therefore also people who have fallen on hard times. Tiertafel Deutschland e.V. is a group that hands out free food to pet owners who are having difficulties in providing properly for their pets. The first distribution centre was set up in 2006 by Claudia Hollm in Rathenow, Brandenburg. There are now 26 centres throughout Germany and more are planned. Tiertafel supports pet owners in need, and not just with pet food and accessories. The distribution centres work closely with experts to be able to offer professional help with pet problems.
