XXL goes international
First XXL store outside of Germany opens in Luxembourg
Fressnapf opened an XXL store with a sales area of 1,400 m2 in Rue de Brill, Foetz in Luxembourg on October 23rd. A 300m2 pond department and 400m2 outdoor area will bring the store to a total of 2,000 m2 when they open in spring 2009, making it the largest pet specialty store in Luxembourg by far.
"The concept, which we have successfully tried and tested in Germany, is now ready for international expansion. We will tap new sales potential with our experience concept over a large sales area and live animal departments at XXL stores outside of Germany," explains Johannes Croé, head of international expansion.
Fressnapf opened the Luxembourg store in 1999. "We have since become the market leader in Luxembourg and established to the point where we can now start with XXL stores," says Croé. Alongside the XXL store in Foetz, Fressnapf franchise partners the Müller family operate a total of five stores in Luxembourg.
XXL will be rolled out in France in the coming year. "We decide where the next XXL stores are opened in Europe based on the market readiness of individual countries." Three further XXL stores will also open their doors in Germany by the end of the year.
