Second Düsseldorf Dog Event set for September 5th
Instead of trotting horses, the Düsseldorf racecourse will be filled with barking, sniffing and tail wagging on September 5th when it turns into a paradise for both dogs and owners. Two and four-legged friends can expect a colourful mixture of information, fun and entertainment from 11 am to 6 pm at the second ever “Düsseldorf Dog Event”. Jörg Dräbert, Managing Director of Fressnapf Heimtierbedarf GmbH and organizer of the Düsseldorf Dog Event, is looking forward to the dog festival for the entire family. “Düsseldorf is not just the capital of fashion and advertising. For us, it’s also a city of dogs. We want the Dog Event to be an unforgettable event for all canine lovers in the state capital.”
Big, bigger, biggest: World record attempt at the Dog Event
This year, the Dog Event is set to attract dog lovers with an extra special event: A gigantic dog cake in the shape of a bone will be baked in front of visitors’ eyes. The aim is to beat the current world record. The largest dog cake to have ever come out of an oven weighed 105 kilograms. The Dog Event is sure to set canine hearts racing with the enormous cake, as four-legged visitors can sample it straight out of the oven. Owners can buy a piece for their furry companion and at the same time do their bit for charity – all proceeds will go to the Tiertafel Deutschland e. V. distribution centre in Düsseldorf.
Curtain call for Yvo Antoni
Alongside the world record attempt, various show acts will provide first-class entertainment. The entertainment programme will be hosted by Claudia Ludwig, well-known from television and radio. A sure highlight of the day will be the performance by RTL “Supertalent” winner Yvo Antoni and his Jack Russell Terrier PrimaDonna, who will thrill audiences with acrobatic tricks. Other two and four-legged stars will also show off their talents with dog dancing and trick dogs performing stunts straight out of a movie. Visitors can also marvel at football-playing dogs, an animal comedy and acrobatic donkeys.
Tips and tricks from dog experts
Owners looking for expert tips are in the right place at the Dog Event. Visitors can attend numerous workshops and talks by well-known dog experts covering topics as diverse as animal health and dog training through to legal issues. The programme also includes a demonstration by the German training association for therapy dogs and assistance dogs for people with a disability (DATB e.V.). State group leader Filiz Erfurt will show what an assistance dog can do. Various animal welfare associations will also showcase their work.
Fun for everyone
There are numerous activities for visitors to participate in and show off their pets’ sporting talents. Everyone who wants to know if their four-legged friend is the fastest or can jump the farthest can sign them up for dog diving or a dog race. At the “Dog and Child” workshop, younger dog lovers and their furry friends can demonstrate how well they work together on an obstacle course. Experienced trainers will also demonstrate how clicker training works at the Dog Event – practice makes perfect! Dogs with a love of the limelight can take part in the search for a “super paw” and a trick dog casting session. Young animal lovers are also invited to a casting session – Nimtschek animal photographers are always looking for child models for photo shoots. Owners shopping for Rover, Spot and friends will find a comprehensive range of products at over 80 stands.
Important information
Plenty of free parking spaces are available for visitors at METRO, Schlüterstr. (Flingern-Nord). Free shuttle busses will travel between the racecourse and the car park. Entry costs five euros, with children up to 16 free. As a thank you for coming along, every visitor will receive a showbag with various gifts for their four-legged friend upon presentation of his or her entry card. All dog owners are asked to bring an up-to-date rabies vaccination certificate. Alongside Fressnapf, other sponsors are Greenies, Happy Dog, Royal Canin, Real Nature and Select Gold.
