With rolling pins and biscuit cutters: Fressnapf bakes for Germany’s animal shelters
To celebrate Christmas, Fressnapf is giving out delicious dog biscuits and cat treats to abandoned dogs and cats in Germany’s animal shelters. Streifi und Flecki, the feline and canine company mascots from the Fressnapf logo, are setting off on an epic tour of 20 animal shelters across the whole of Germany. Both mascots have got sacks stuffed full of home-baked goodies as gifts for the animals, namely 5,000 dog biscuits and cat treats, baked by Achim Schütz, Kim van Nieuwenborg and Dennis Bredtmann from the Fressnapf press office, along with Horst Schuberth, in Schuberth’s dog biscuit bakery in Neunkirchen-Seelscheid. The four spent a day wielding rolling pins and biscuit cutters in the bakery, but they weren’t alone. Streifi and Flecki, already full of excitement about giving out the treats at animal shelters in the weeks leading up to Christmas, were also there in the form of dolls measuring almost 3 metres tall.
Wholemeal flour, water and lots of delicious beef and lamb are the ingredients for dog biscuits and cat treats à la Horst Schuberth and they do not contain any added salt or sugar. “We have rolled, kneaded and baked non-stop to get everything ready on time”, says company spokesman Achim Schütz, with streaks of flour on his forehead. “After all, there were around 100 kilograms of dough to get through. After just under eight hours, we were all glad to get everything finished and send Streifi and Flecki off on their journey with all the treats.” And Horst Schuberth adds “I was happy to do whatever necessary so that we could bake together for a good cause. I think Fressnapf’s dedication to animal welfare is wonderful!” Schuberth’s biscuits and treats are very easily digestible and do not contain any additives or preservatives. The dog biscuit baker reassures that “there will be a proper Christmas feast in the animal shelters”.
Streifi and Flecki’s Christmas gift tour starts on 7th December at the animal shelter in Wuppertal. For the second time, the giant animal mascots will be travelling from shelter to shelter, where they are already eagerly awaited by hungry mouths. “It’s a lovely gesture that will be greatly appreciated by the staff and animals at the shelters”, explains Thomas Schröder, President of the German animal welfare association. Over and above this gesture, Fressnapf will also be making a donation as part of the campaign. All 20 animal shelters will each receive two pallets of dog and cat food, worth around 1,000 euros.
