Glockenspitz students develop a doggie bowl for Fressnapf
Together with 55 students from the Glockenspitz vocational college in Krefeld, Fressnapf has created a project to design a new food bar for dogs. A food bar is a contemporary, functionally-designed double bowl that can be easily integrated into any living space. From February to April, the budding technical design assistants specialising in graphics let their creativity loose to develop a set of designs under the guidance of teachers Daniela Völtl and Stefanie Sanfilippo. The idea of a joint campaign between the college and the company was the brainchild of Fressnapf Product Manager André Jeschke.
The students who produced the three most creative ideas were presented with a Fressnapf “Golden Food Bar” award. One of the winning designs is a pyramid-shaped pillar standing approximately half a metre high, featuring two height-adjustable food bowls, several drawers, a hook for leads and even an extra bowl for doggie treats. The second design is in the shape of a cube, with an integrated water bowl on the top. A further cube with storage room and a fitted food bowl could be pulled out from the inside. The third winning project is a food bowl with a height-adjustable, integrated splash guard, designed to be made of high-quality wood.
The students started by studying products that are currently on the market and considered how they could be improved. They spent a total of two months producing design blueprints to illustrate their ideas and then implemented them using a range of materials to produce a finished prototype. The resulting proposals aim to help reshape the dog food bar of the future with a more attractive design.
Through this competition, Fressnapf was able to promote the Glockenspitz students’ creativity and give the up-and-coming designers some practical experience to help prepare them for their entry into the working world. In so doing, the students were given a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. “We are absolutely delighted with the results”, says André Jeschke. “The students’ creative talent and imagination knew no bounds!” This was a truly exciting and successful collaboration for both parties.
