A giant bone and a generous donation: FRESSNAPF donates 283,735 euros to the Deutscher Tierschutzbund (German animal welfare association)
Wow! What a huge bone: 2 metres in length, 10 kg in weight and worth 283,735 euros! And it was this generous amount which the giant bone came to symbolise on the stage last Sunday at this year’s FRESSNAPF “St. Wauli” dog festival in Hamburg. The colossal bone, made from cardboard and plaster of Paris, got tails wagging at the official conclusion of the 2011 FRESSNAPF “Give paw!” campaign. The 283,735 euro donation collected during the campaign was presented in the form of the symbolic bone to the President of the Deutscher Tierschutzbund, Thomas Schröder at the “St. Wauli” festival by FRESSNAPF spokesman, Achim Schütz. The special celebrity guest at St. Wauli was actor Jörn Schlönvoigt, from the RTL series “Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten” (Good times and bad times): He took part in a photo shoot at St. Wauli under the slogan “Give Jörn paw!”, shaking hands with hundreds of doggy paws, as a symbol of thanks from FRESSNAPF to everyone who took part in last year’s campaign.
FRESSNAPF customers gave paw!
From 4th October to 31st December last year, FRESSNAPF customers could buy two paw stickers for a one euro donation at one of over 800 Fressnapf stores in Germany as part of the “Give paw!“ campaign. One sticker was to take home and the other was for “paw givers” to write their name on and stick to the entrance door of their FRESSNAPF store as a visual mark of their personal commitment to animal welfare. Everyone that actively supported animal welfare was immortalised on the “donation door”. At the FRESSNAPF store in Mülheim-Kärlich alone, FRESSNAPF customers bought more than 11,000 paws over the course of the campaign. FRESSNAPF founder and proprietor, Torsten Toeller, commented: “We would like to thank all our customers, because every individual played their part in contributing to the final 283,735 euro donation. It’s great that animal welfare is so important to FRESSNAPF customers!”
A big thank you from the Deutscher Tierschutzbund!
“A donation as generous as this is a fantastic result for the Deutscher Tierschutzbund. We were speechless when we first heard the news”, said Thomas Schröder. The success of the campaign demonstrates that FRESSNAPF customers not only care deeply about animals, but are also very compassionate when it comes to animal welfare. This also applies to the employees at FRESSNAPF stores, as this campaign would not have been possible without their enthusiasm. Thomas Schröder commented on the result, “We would like to say a big, big thank you! And we promise that the donations will have an impact right where they are most urgently needed. The money will go towards practical animal welfare measures, carried out every day in over 700 animal welfare associations with which we are affiliated, including over 500 animal shelters. In particular, the money will go towards those cases, which unfortunately are all too common, where even the most basic essentials are lacking. One part of the donations will be put towards animal welfare projects in the Ukraine, where urgent action is required to combat dog killings, which have caused outrage in the context of EURO 2012.”
A huge commitment to animal welfare
FRESSNAPF has supported the Deutscher Tierschutzbund for 15 years by donating material and monetary donations with a total value of over 500,000 euros every year. These donations have been used to support important projects run by the Deutscher Tierschutzbund. The “Give paw!” campaign was held for the fourth time in 2011. This year’s total of 283,735 euros, raised by FRESSNAPF and its customers, was nearly triple the amount raised during the first campaign in 2008. In 2012, FRESSNAPF customers will have another chance to “give paw” in all FRESSNAPF stores in Germany, from 4th October to 31st December, and in doing so they can make their mark for animal welfare.
