Fressnapf donates hay to rhino bull Usoni at Krefeld Zoo
Genuine neighbourly help and manual labour were called for at Krefeld zoo on Friday. Two gigantic euro pallets full of Fressnapf's private label MultiFit hay, from the Fressnapf company headquarters in Linn, rolled out onto Uerdinger Straße. They were destined for a very special recipient: “Usoni”, Krefeld Zoo’s proud bull rhinoceros.
New zoo vet Stefanie Markowski and Fressnapf spokesman Kristian Peters-Lach unpacked the hay in the bright sunshine and served it to Usoni in his enclosure in almost “bite-sized” chunks, as an early dinner. „A wonderful example of neighbourly help. Our Usoni is actually quite reserved, but he made the effort to come out for such a tempting treat”, says Markowski happily. Fressnapf delivered more than 250 kilos of MultiFit hay as a food donation to Krefeld Zoo. That is equivalent to a good half of the daily requirements of the ponies or the rhinos. Hay is an important basic foodstuff for many of the zoo’s residents so the animals are always very choosy when it comes to quality. You can come face to face with Usoni and the other residents of Krefeld Zoo every day until September, from 8am until 7pm. Public feeding displays are also held daily from 11am until 3pm.
As the leader of the European pet supplies market, Fressnapf has been supporting animal shelters, animal welfare organisations and, as a next-door neighbour, Krefeld Zoo with food donations for many years. In the past year alone, the Krefeld-based company has donated around 80 tonnes of animal feed throughout Germany, plus numerous monetary and material donations. When it comes to donations, Fressnapf works closely with Deutscher Tierschutzbund e.V. (the German animal welfare association) with which around 500 animal shelters all over Germany are affiliated. Fressnapf employs around 1,200 staff in administration and logistics at the company headquarters in Krefeld.
